Commanding Co. "E" Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers are often called upon to assist State and local law enforcement with manhunts. The public is most familiar with searches for dangerous fugitives such as murder suspects or prison escapees. However, Rangers may also be called upon to find missing and lost persons, or even Alzheimer's disease patients who have wandered away from homes or nursing facilities.

From March 21-25 eleven Texas Rangers from companies "E" (Midland), "F" (Waco) and "D" (San Antonio) attended special training in tactical tracking at the Canyon Ranch, about 30 miles south of Sonora, Texas.

The goal of the exercise is to establish tracking teams within each of the six Texas Ranger companies consisting of a Captain, Lieutenant and five Rangers.

The tracking team adopts a concealed prone position when confronting an armed suspect who opens fire on them.

Lt. Bob Bullock uses a tracking stick to look for spoor (a trace left by someone or something that passed through the area). Sgt. Calvin Cox looks on.
