Clayton McKinney
1940—2004

Sadly, we must report the passing of Texas Ranger Clayton McKinney, on August 20, 2004. This son of Pat and Vera McKinney, he was born June 4, 1940 in Marathon, Texas. Clayton grew up and was educated in that Texas city.

Ranger McKinney spent his entire adult life in law enforcement. Before joining the Rangers, he worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division as a pilot and game warden in the far West Texas town of Van Horn.

On September 1, 1969, McKinney became a proud member of Texas Ranger Company "E", stationed in Sierra Blanca. He remained there until January 1977, when he transferred to Alpine, his last station.

After retiring from the Rangers on August 31, 1985, McKinney worked for the Midland County Sheriff’s Office as its chief deputy. He took off his badge for the last time in 2002.

Clayton McKinney is survived by his wife Jean.
